With the glorious flowering of American reality TV it’s easy to forget that some of the biggest shows were invented offshore—Pop Idol was British, Survivor Swedish. On the health beat, the English continue to set new standards. Check out the promo info for this show on BBC Three—a government-funded channel of the venerable Beeb. It aired on Valentine’s Day.
Freaky Eaters
“Addicted to Sausages”
New series. Eighteen-year-old Natalie Holland lives on a diet of burnt sausages. She is about to move in with her boyfriend and is determined to deal with her food phobia.
The promo picture (above) shows the teen—who is an aspiring chef, for God’s sake—holding what looks like the rude last mortal remains of Jimmy Dean after being incinerated by a martian.
Two hours later the same channel horked this hairball up.
Bizarre ER
A new documentary series looking at extraordinary cases in a British A&E department. In this edition a student traps his testicles beneath a 60kg gearbox.
OK, I admit I would be tempted to tune in to see how the fellow got into his spot of trouble.

I’m the office hero for emailing this nugget around. The Brits really know how to make quality television.
