Desperate Housewife Dana Delany Gets a Mammogram on TV

By Sally Chew | September 8, 2008

On September 5, Desperate Housewives star Dana Delany had a breast checkup on national TV. During Stand Up to Cancer, an hour-long broadcast that raised $100 million for breast cancer by running commercial-free on all three major networks, Delany invited the cameras to document her clinical breast exam, mammogram, and ultrasound. Afterward, she sat down with her doctor to look at images of a suspicious lump that turned out to be benign (but will require a follow-up).

Check out Delany’s segment on YouTube:

To hear other women talk about their own experiences getting their breasts screened, watch the following Health.com video interviews.

Susanne’s mammogram sent her running to get a biopsy.

Betsy’s family history of the disease made getting a mammogram a little scary.

Ellen tells the story of her first fine-needle biopsy.

Ladies, please, please, please don’t be afraid to take the steps that will save your life. My 24 year old daughter came to me, scared to death because she had felt a lump in her left breast. I immediately made her go to the doctor, and the doctor sent her for a mammogram that confirmed the presence of a tumor. We then were referred to a breast surgeon, who recommended immediate removal of the tumor, even though he was sure it was benign. Thank God it was benign, but I cannot tell you how relieved we both were that she had found it early and acted on it, without delay.

I guess the thing to remember is that you don’t die from finding out you have cancer. You die from NOT finding out that you have cancer.

Just to clarify an inaccuracy in the above article – Stand Up to Cancer raised $100 million for ALL types of cancer, not just breast cancer.

If people are looking for alternative treatment for cancer, I can recommend high dosages of Vitamin C through an IV. I have Follicular Lymphoma and have been on this treatment for 5 months. I had this treatment twice a week during that time. I know that many women who suffer from breast cancer have lymph nodes removed. Follicular Lymphoma is a cancer involving the Lymph Nodes. I had one Lymph Node removed during the diagnoses process. I was diagnosed with Stage Four Folliculr Lymphoma. Vitamin C infusion has saved my life. I now tell as many people as possible of what it has done for me and I recommend anyone with cancer to investigate it for themselves as a possible treatment.
